Using Artificial Intelligence for ISO compliance?

In this blog series we will be exploring the use of AI, specifically ChatGPT, to learn about and ultimately implement an ISO 9001 Quality Management System.

We will ask the AI, in a series of experiments, to teach us about various sections of the ISO9001 standard, write procedures, and provide implementation guidance for commonly asked questions. We will then critique the information and provide an analysis based on the following criteria:

  1. The quality of the information from a technical perspective,

  2. The completeness of the information in terms of errors or omissions or nuances,

  3. The degree of relevance and usefulness of the information to guide an organization through implementation.

We predict the devil will be in the details of the questions formulated. The types and syntax of the questions we will ask will change as we learn how to ask the AI to address our critiques and include specific types of information in the responses. Basic AI questions may look like:

  • “Hello ChatGPT, please create a 1-page white paper document in semi-formal business format on how to write an ISO 9001 quality policy statement.”

  • “Hello ChatGPT, please create a concise 1-page procedure on the process of conducting an annual ISO 9001management review meeting.”

I personally, am really looking forward to seeing what the limitations of AI are at the present time, with regards to consulting. Ultimately, this may turn into a guide on how to use AI to make ISO consultants obsolete. Maybe, we will be able to package this work into an app that can ask an organization all the right questions and formulate all the right AI queries to create an entire ISO consulting engagement from start to registration... The possibilities are endless!
